Women
though co-founders of Humankind, have been the most mortal
of beings, so few are the traces they have left in history.
Perceived for millennia as lacking either soul or
intelligence, their existence has always fluctuated between
oppression and liberation.
The
foundations of society are inscribed in women’s bodies: the
body fantasized, constrained, violated, humiliated, sensual,
strong and fragile. That shifting body brings to life a
theatre of memory wherein the history of women is played
out, from darkness into light.
The
history of women is the history of their silence, a long
silent film that required some thousands of years to move
into the talkies. Their entire artistic, spiritual and
intellectual past has been erased by political and religious
systems that do not acknowledge any competence in the fields
of the arts and knowledge. Woman was nothing but unbounded
nature which had to be held back like an unbridled sea, for
fear that reason and culture would be annihilated. There
exist in art countless depictions of the female body, but
the imbalance is total: on the hand, an over-abundance of
fantasized images of women, on the other hand, the highly
eloquent of women from the creation of their own images.
Women could have no social position, no thought and no soul.
Held ignorant of their own history, women knew nothing about
the ideas or the resistance of the women who came before
them, a mirror wherein they might have recognized themselves
and found much sooner the strength to break the bonds that
shackled them.
Women discriminated against of killed when they tare to
speak out or lay claim to learning; female knowledge erased
and forgotten; a vision of the world determined solely by
the values of the patriarchal elite; and women today still
excluded from power and lacking full access to education and
the fields of higher learning.
The
search of beauty is legitimate. But to control women’s
bodies, that quest has been perverted into physical
constraints. Their bodies have been parceled out and
modelled into breasts, buttocks, legs, sex. In the name of
Beauty, brilliant shackles were invented that reduced
women’s mobility and prevented them from breathing,
weakening them physically. They were corseted, hoisted onto
high heels that stopped them from running; their feet were
mutilated, their necks elongated with jewellery they could
remove only at the risk of death. And so women came to see
themselves as individuals unable to confront the world.
Violence
against women is neither is rare nor marginal nor is it the
work only of men who are deviant or sick. It is one of the
most extreme consequences of the social inequality of the
sexes. It is often the last recourse when other means of
controlling a woman have failed.
Assaulting the body means striking a blow at women in their
entirety: souls, bodies and spirits forever wounded.
So,
women’s history is a long series of contractions: between
emancipation and repression, appreciation and depreciation,
exaltation and condemnation.
But,
fortunately in the pas forty years women have acquired
remarkable freedom and power. Determined and courageous they
have won all the letters in “freedom” and now are taking
possession of “equality” and
Superiority and even for women of my calibers.
We are at a vital turning-point in history, when the word
fraternity must encompass the other half of the sky, just as
the revolution of woman has always encompassed the
liberation of all human beings.
Women are emerging from the shadows to take their rightful
place in History.
Today, in the name of freedom and self-respect, women want
their bodies and their sexuality to be free, radiant, and
unsubdued, in the image of the persons they have
become. For some sixty years women have been ceaselessly
discovering and exploring the physical aspects of their
sexuality. Frequently hidden, too often denigrated, female
sexuality has been brought into the light.
Now, it
is in our turn to make use of the toys (corset, thigh highs,
high heel, chastity belt, female undies, etc) that you
imposed on us in the past and on which you fantasize to
excite yourself with and control YOUR SEXUALITY.
Now, do
not make me wait any more, I tend to get angry when you
don’t obey me!
